Betterment’s Premium plan requires a minimum investing balance of $100,000 (based on your combined balance across any taxable stock and bond investing accounts, IRA, HSA, and crypto accounts you hold at Betterment). If you meet the minimum balance requirement and would like to upgrade to Premium, you can do so by scheduling an initial call with an advisor.

Please note, if you withdraw your entire balance before the end of the month or year, you’re only charged the fee for the days your money was managed by Betterment. Our fees are calculated based on your daily account balance, accrued daily, and charged monthly or upon a full withdrawal. You can household your accounts to combine your balances for the purposes of meeting minimum balance requirements for our various plans. Betterment offers automatic householding for customers who open joint accounts or establish taxpayer relationships with one another when turning on TLH+. We also offer manual householding for any two customers who reside at the same address. If you’d like to be householded, or removed from an existing household, please contact us.
